Get ready for Sheriff’s Camp!  Sheriff T.W. “Tom” McComas encourages all students currently in the 8th grade in Cabell County to make application to attend the West Virginia Sheriff’s Association’s Youth Leadership Academy.

The camp is a challenging and fun-filled week of educational and recreation activities.  This year the camp is taking place at the Barbour County 4-H Camp near Philippi July 12-July 17, 2009.

Sheriff McComas said, “The West Virginia Sheriff’s Camp is a great opportunity for the kids of Cabell County to learn about law enforcement careers and develop their leadership skills.  Middle and high school students from all over the state attend the camp.  I’m proud to be a part of this worthwhile experience.”

The camp is a non-profit venture funded by the West Virginia Sheriff’s Association and private donations.  Sheriff McComas is asking local businesses and individuals for monetary or in-kind donations to help defray some of the costs.

If you would like to donate to the camp or make application to attend, please call Sheriff McComas’s office at (304) 526-8663 or contact the Sheriff’s Youth Leadership Academy at P.O. Box 3031, Charleston, W.Va. 25331.  Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.  The deadline to apply for camp is Friday, May 22, 2009.  You can also obtain further information by going to the Sheriff’s Association Web site at www.wvsheriff.org.
