HUNTINGTON -- The Cabell County Sheriff's Department swore in one of its newest deputies Tuesday.

Cabell Circuit Judge John Cummings administered the oath to Deputy Richard E. Romero at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The ceremony took place in the Cabell County Commission Chambers, located on the third floor of the county's courthouse.

The County Commission voted to hire Romero on Sept. 20. He returns to Cabell County after 18 months as a deputy in Lincoln County, Wyoming. He previously served as a sheriff's deputy in Cabell County between May 2003 and February 2006.

Romero was born in Wyoming. He then married a native of the Huntington area, Michelle Wood Romero. They have three children.

Romero fills a vacant position created when a deputy resigned his post to take a job with the Huntington Police Department, said Sheriff Kim Wolfe.
